Training Services
Rendering aid to accident victims is not only a moral but also a legal duty. Johann T. is one of the hundred-thousand people that have participated in Red Cross first aid courses. The knowledge that Johann T. gained at his course was put to use only days later when he witnessed an accident and was able to help promptly and in the right way. Although a Red Cross ambulance or helicopter arrives with a medical team within fifteen minutes of an accident, the victims' lives often depend on the abilities of the non-professional witnesses.
Basic first aid courses are offered by every Red Cross branch. Besides first aid instruction, the Austrian Red Cross organises training programs in health and community service sectors, including classes in nursing, care for the elderly, the so called "support for helpers" program and others.
Target groups for training programs are all people who want to be able to help correctly and efficiently. Public education is as important to the Austrian Red Cross as the education of its own staff!
