Water Systems and Hygiene Education

After years of armed conflict, the poorest country in Asia reached independence in 2002. Since 2005, the Austrian Red Cross has cooperated closely with the Timor Leste Red Cross (CVTL). The construction of water systems for 20.000 people in 40 villages improves the access to safe drinking water. In addition, health and hygiene education provides the basis for the improvement of the general health conditions of the rural population.
