Disaster Risk Reduction and Water
The Austrian Red Cross started its activities in the conflict-torn South Asian country after the devastating earthquake in the North in 2005. During the emergency phase, Austrian specialists immediately saved lives by providing save drinking water. Consequently, the Austrian Red Cross has continued its support for the Pakistani population until today: In cooperation with the Swiss Red Cross, the Austrian Red Cross initiated a reconstruction project to resupply four village communities with drinking water and sanitary facilities. In 2009, we launch in close cooperation with the Danish Red Cross a 3-year disaster risk reduction project in Kashmir to improve health conditions and provide environmental sustainability.
