Owing to climate change and other factors the number of small and medium scale hydro meteorological disasters is rising. This generates demand for increased preparedness capacities of the EU civil protection mechanism. As there is special demand for water purification the XH2O project will set up one multinational cross border Water Purification Module. This will happen under the participation of the project partners which are the Austrian Red Cross, the Croatian Red Cross and the Slovenian Red Cross.
The Water Purification Module (WPM) will be registered in the Common Emergency Communication and Information System (CECIS) by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Interior. The WPM will be deployable in the framework on the EU civil protection mechanism upon request of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior in cooperation with the Croatian and Slovenian civil protection authorities.
The project is based on 20 years of experience and long term cooperation of the project partners in international disaster relief especially in the field of water purification.
Project co-funded by the European Commission, DG Environment, Civil Protection Unit
