The proposed intervention considers the multiple challenges in Lebanon, the displacement crisis of Syrians, the socio-economic crisis and the increase in social tensions, ensuring that all vulnerable populations in Lebanon receive short term humanitarian assistance as well as longer term support. It builds on expertise acquired and lessons learned from previous projects regarding WASH in public schools and ITSs and uses this opportunity to extend its scope and to strengthen gender awareness in the interventions. Through equal targeting of Syrian refugees and Lebanese host communities it follows a conflict sensitive approach.
Lebanese and Syrian female and male students will have improved, sustainable and inclusive access to safe water, sanitation facilities and hygiene practices that address gender-specific needs in targeted schools in Baalbek-Hermel (14 schools, 5.880 students – 3.080 female/ 2800 male/ 196 teachers and school staff – 157 female/ 39 male). Additionally female students will be empowered to practice safe and dignified menstrual hygiene management in targeted schools in Baalbek-Hermel (4.480 students – 3.080 female and 1.400 male).
And also 120 households in Informal Tented Settlements will have improved hygiene practices and access to sustainable safe water and sanitation facilities in Baalbek-Hermel.
