An online disaster risk reduction and first aid platform was developed in partner countries- based on the Austrian Youth Red Cross Platform on First Aid Fit Schools. The platform contains a host of pedagogical material, including emergency checklists, general safety information, and tools for disaster risk reduction, first aid, and psycho-social support.
The Croatian Red Cross has succeeded to develop the Safer Schools and Kindergartens project into a long-term program that has been approved and supported by the Ministry of Science and Education and the Education Agency. Running for 4 years, 53.010 children and 4.162 educational workers from 292 kindergartens and 119 elementary schools from the entire Republic of Croatia have participated so far.
The Croatian Red Cross presented the successful implementation of the program to the Slovenian Red Cross, which expressed interest in adopting the entire concept and content of the Safer Schools and Kindergartens program.
"The Safer Schools and Kindergartens Platform has proven to be an excellent tool for achieving this outreach. To stay up-to-date and engaging, the content on the platform is continuously updated with new materials and workshops that we develop independently, but also in cooperation with educational workers who implement the program in kindergartens and schools. By the end of this year, the Croatian Red Cross plans to upgrade the design of the platform and introduce new activities related to climate change, with the goal of raising awareness of humanity's greatest challenge from an early age."
