SOLARIZING WATER PUMPING STATIONS

In partnership with the Lebanese Red Cross, the AutRC successfully completed its first host community solarization project in the Qaa area of Baalbek-Hermel Governorate in Lebanon. This vital initiative focused on solarizing a local water pumping station, which played a critical role during the conflict.

The conflict escalation last year led to the displacement of over one million people inside Lebanon. Qaa, considered one of the safer areas in Baalbek-Hermel, served as a refuge for a large number of internally displaced persons from the Hermel area during this time.

By equipping the pumping station with solar panels, the project ensured a continuous water supply for the displaced families and local residents. Today, the station provides water to around 100 households, benefiting approximately 500 people. The pump, powered by a 15-horsepower motor, draws water from a depth of 110 meters, ensuring a sustainable and reliable water source for the community. While many internally displaced people could return to their area of origin, approximately 113,578 remain displaced across Lebanon.
