Water Quality in Emergencies

Aim

Participants will understand ERU M40 water quality testing and treatment and the appropriate use of these resources to improve health and restore dignity through the provision of safe water in a target community of 40,000 beneficiaries.

Objective

By the end of the training, participants will be able to

• assess the quality of raw water sources
• determine the correct source for batch treatment
• control the treatment process
• ensure the quality of treated water in accordance with legal requirements
• give appropriate Hygiene Promotion messages around WQ

Main technical aspects

• Raw water assessment parameters Practical work with IFRC ERU M15/M40 laboratory equipment
• Chemical and other materials used during M40 operation, treatment and quality testing
• Chemical and physical characteristics of water
• Theory and practice of water analysis
• Hygiene Promotion messages related to water quality in general

Requirements

• Completed national WASH Basic Training
• Nomination by your branch or National RC Society
• IFRC ERU M40 International Training recommended
• Completed the minimum trainings required for IFRC Rapid Response personnel
• English (at least B2 level)
