Emergency Team Leader Training (IFRC)
Objective
This workshop is designed to prepare delegates to become leaders within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The seminar is aimed at future ERU team leaders and FACT staff.
When disaster strikes anywhere in the world, international emergency teams come to the rescue. The Austrian Red Cross works closely with local National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to save lives and ensure survival.
Content
The ETL course focuses on a range of competencies required of emergency team leaders. Rather than being a technical training course, it focuses primarily on the strategic, operational management and relational elements of leadership. It also includes some elements of Red Cross/Red Crescent specific systems and procedures required of team leaders.
The training addresses the following competencies:
- Relational skills including self-awareness, effective communication, situational leadership, conflict management and negotiation, motivation and influence
- Strategic competencies including assessment, analysis, decision making, direction setting, planning and coordination
- Operations management, including achieving operational objectives, diagnosing team capabilities, team management and information management
- Awareness topics related to Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement systems and administration
Requirements
- At least 3 years of field experience with a broad background in disaster and crisis response and management, including sectoral response
- International humanitarian experience is mandatory
- Experience of working within the RC/RC Movement, including in emergency management
- Experience of disaster management frameworks, disaster hazards and consequences, humanitarian structure and humanitarian standards
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary and multinational teams
- Experience in problem solving and decision making in high stress and changing environments
- Experience of project cycle management and planning
- Experience of supervising and leading others
- Availability for a minimum of one month secondment within the next 24 months.
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Knowledge of other languages is an advantage
